Rumi: In Silence

Silence is something that is near and dear to my heart.... my own life experience with extended silence and solitude has brought profound and life transforming gifts. And paradoxically I can (and like to) talk about Silence a lot. Coincidentally, Rumi also talked about silence a lot and apparently when some asked him "Why is it that you talk about silence so much?" His response was "The radiant one within has not spoken a single word." So today I want to share a poem re Silence.

This Rumi poem is aptly titled: In Silence and is fromRumi, In the Arms of The Beloved, Translations by Jonathan Star.

Enjoy!

RumiTime: Genesis of Rumi's Poetry Part 2

In today's episode we continue our exploration re Rumi's meeting with Shams and its profound impact on his life...

Before starting I'd like to acknowledge that

All of the quotes and Rumi's poem in this episode are from the book  "In the Arms of the Beloved, translations by Jonathan Star." All other aspects of Rumi's story are my paraphrased understanding and interpretation of  his life, synthesized through my study of various authors work during my personal exploration of Rumi since 1996. Authors included luminaries like Coleman Barks, Shahram Shiva, Nevit Ergin, Jonathan Star, and Kabir Helminski just to name a few. I am deeply grateful to these authors for their work which has brought me this understanding.

So how did Rumi's world view change since his historic meeting with Shams?

RumiTime: Genesis of Rumi's Poetry Part 1

When we launched this channel we had planned to focus primarily on Rumi poems from various translators along with some interweaving of vignettes from Rumi's life. Unfortunately, not all of our original vision is possible at this time. So RumiTime's focus will change from this show onwards ... we will now provide content that is  inspired by Rumi and his Poetry instead of primarily doing shows on Rumi poetry readings.

Rumi's Poetry points to the infusion of Universal Mystery in all aspects of everyday life: from the most mundane to the most profound...  Rumi saw the Divine in everything which he articulates so exquisitely and eloquently in his poetry.... And of course Rumi is not the only such "mystical" poet... there are others like Hafiz or Kabir or more contemporary ones like Tagore... though Rumi is unparalleled in many regards.
